Our Icelandic Adventure
Having just returned from our summer trip to Iceland we wanted to share some of the best of our photos, chosen from over 1200 photos that were taken by the five of us.
The first day we arrived at 6:30 am, promptly got our rental car, picked up some groceries and headed out for a full day of sight seeing. We were a bit taken aback by the weather. The temperature was in the low 50's as we expected, but the wind was quite strong.
Our first stop was Pingvellir National Park.
Next we drove to Geysir and watched the geysir Strokkur erupt multiple times.
We saw the turbulent waters of Gulfoss Falls...
and hiked around the volcanic crater Kerid.
The next morning we were up and ready for Icelandic Horseback Riding.
On the way to Vik, we stopped at a beautiful waterfall, hiked and had a picnic lunch.
We went to the Southernmost point of the Island and hiked up to the lighthouse.
To our delight, we not only saw puffins,
we saw one very close......
Enjoying the view at the arch, the southernmost point of Iceland.
The Coastline.
More scenery from a hike at the top of another waterfall the next morning.
We are touching a glacier!
The building in the photo is one of the farmhouses where we stayed for one night, the mountain rising to the upper righthand corner is the one we climbed after dinner!
Elle enjoying the nighttime hike.
Sunset during our hike, it is close to 11:00pm, but still quite light out.
Sights on our drive back to Reykjavik.
On the Observation Deck of The Perlan in Reykjavik.
Great photobomb at The Blue Lagoon.
Lunch of crackers, cheese, and smoked arctic charr in the airport before we headed back to Minneapolis.
